The Legacy of Gertrude Guajardo
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure…
Our mother, Gertrude Tatum Guajardo was born March 12, 1939 to the late Robert Lee and Tishie Mc Neal Tatum in Whiteville, Tennessee. Gertrude was the fourth of nine children. Gertrude’s siblings’ names are as follows: Virginia, Lorenzo, Bobbie Mae, Herbert, Gwyn, Lee Von, and Charlie (who lived only 3 days). 7 of Gertrudes’ siblings preceded her in death.
Gertrude graduated in 1957 from a historic Rosenwald foundation school named Allen White High, in Whiteville, TN. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at El Canaan Missionary Baptist Church.
After graduation from high school, Gertrude moved to Chicago, IL where she enjoyed a rewarding career as a dietitian for over 40 years at Weiss Memorial Hospital. After retirement, she continued to volunteer at Weiss Memorial, and at the food pantry at her church.
Gertrude reaffirmed her commitment to Christ and became an active member of Harvest Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor and Mrs. Abayomi Ajai. She enjoyed international traveling with her church family.
Gertrude always found time to help others. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. She will be missed by many.
Our mother, Gertrude leaves to mourn her passing, a daughter- Charlotte Tatum of Long Beach, CA, a son- Ruben Omar Guajardo of Chicago, IL, a daughter in law- LaShawn Guajardo, 5 adored and very loved grandchildren-Frank Jr, Courtney, Rashawn, Kai and Rylee; 1 Great- grandson, Kyzer, 1 sister, Virginia Louise Barthelemy of Los Angeles, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews and family that still reside in Whiteville, TN. Her daughter, Tina Denise Nash, preceded her in death.
We know that our mother s is in heaven now celebrating a job well done here on earth– with her parents, daughter, and siblings whom she loved and missed very much.
